LifeSource receives 7 Grants for Summer Program
LifeSource, a local non-profit, whose mission is “Strengthening Families, Building
Communities” by helping families in need throughout Northwest Arkansas is the recipient of seven grants. The funds received from these grants will all be used to facilitate their Kid’s Life Summer Day Camp program. This program provides up to 90 disadvantaged low-income children with a fun, safe, and educational place to come during eight weeks of the summer school break.
The seven grantors are: City of Fayetteville’s Community Block Grant, Walmart State Giving Grant, Fayetteville High School YAC program (made possible in part by the Fayetteville Area Community Foundation, an affiliate office of the Arkansas Community Foundation, Inc.), Fayetteville Junior Civic League, Clorox/GLAD Manufacturing Company, WME, and the No Kid Hungry Arkansas campaign (an initiative of Share Our Strength and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance). The combined grants will fund 70% of the budget needed to host the camp. Additional funding for the summer camp is supported by individuals and local businesses who believe in what LifeSource is doing to help low-income and poverty level families in need throughout Northwest Arkansas.
This is LifeSource’s eleventh year of hosting a Kid’s Life Summer Day Camp. The children will spend their mornings working on academics and afternoons on arts, crafts and physical fitness. Our new projects this year is a learning garden program and a recycling program. The children also receive 2 meals and 2 snacks daily, to ensure that they are receiving the nutrition they need. The following quote is a sampling of the many comments and letters we receive from parents of children who attend our summer camp, “… As a single mom of 4 kids I have to give up ¾ of my salary to pay a sitter during the summer months. I thank God for your organization that helps me take care of my kids, invigorating their minds and bodies with fun lessons and activities, and providing nutritional meals, otherwise they would be home alone. I cannot thank you enough for all you do…” – J.
