Summer Day Camp

Summer is a fun time for most children, but for those whose families live at or below poverty it is filled with some tough decisions. Many of the families we serve through the Kid’s Life Summer Day Camp would be faced with the decision of leaving their children home alone while th
ey work or struggle to pay bills because of paying a sitter. This is one reason why LifeSource reaches out to help low-income families by providing a safe, fun and educational place during the summer for the children.
Beginning June 4th we will be impacting the lives of disadvantaged children from 2nd-11 th grades. Elementary and Middle School children have elements that consist of: Reading, Math, Computers, and Fitness/Nutrition in the mornings. The afternoons are filled with: crafts, music, painting, and activities. The Leadership groups (tth-12th) focus is on servant leadership, building personal character qualities, and more.
This year LifeSource is facing some challenges with increased camp costs. The State of Arkansas has cut reimbursement amounts for helping feed each child. The overall cost of food itself has increased. The cost of gas has increased, thereby increasing cost for transportation to summer activities. Lastly, some activities we take the campers to, i.e. swimming at the Jones Center have increased their fees. Combined, these will have a huge impact on the overall camp budget.
